The roles

The main role of a care worker is to support someone in need of care, improving their lives by attending to their specific needs, and assisting them with their daily tasks.

Care workers may find themselves working with the elderly, and people with disabilities or learning difficulties. However, key duties will usually include:

  • Working with service user, their families and other professionals to identify particular care needs and help develop a personalised support plan
  • Providing personal care depending on the needs of the service user (assisting with washing and dressing etc.)
  • Aiding a service user with other everyday tasks, such as shopping, cooking, domestic duties, hospital and social escorting or just companionship.
  • Providing emotional support to service user.
  • Keeping the service user comfortable and at ease at all times.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

All posts are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
